Spent today checking barn owl boxes on mid-Lincs. This box was used for a second brood last year but was empty today. Lots of fresh pellets on the floor of the barn, but no owls present.
One of several hawfinches (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) seen over the weekend…
These birds are really large finches, they have massive, powerful bills. Usually very shy and difficult to see, but the birds at Rufford (RCP) seem to be very easy to see… Numbers in Nottinghamshire are hard to determine, however, as hawfinches are easily overlooked, especially in summer they may be more common. Never seen one in Lincolnshire!
