Skiddaw Forest (CWT Reserve)

Wow!

Congratulations to the Cumbria Wildlife Trust (CWT) for raising a staggering £1,250,000 to purchase Skiddaw Forest.

This world-renowned 3000-acre wilderness can now be protected for NATURE, forever. NO zip wires, theme parks, no hunting, shooting and other outdoor recreational circuses and disturbance…. Just wildlife!

So, what’s next?

The next stage in this long-term project is delivering the vision to make this place even better for wildlife.

Sadly restoring significantly damaged Upland doesn’t happen overnight. High on the gender must be the recreation of temperate oak rainforest and Upland bog… It will be interesting to watch progress and see if other organisations such as the National Park Authority becoming involved in such a groundbreaking initiative….

Sadly, I won’t be around in 100 years to see the impact that this project will have on the northern fells, but hopefully future generations will enjoy a site supporting far more wildlife than it does at present and an upland Flora dominated by interesting plant communities rather than dominated by sheep grazed mat-grass and heath sedge…

Last time I visited Skiddaw Forest I just saw Meadow Pipits… lots of them!
