Yoke in the Ice

The High Street, Troutbeck 10th January 2025

An unforgettable morning. We set off early from Troutbeck, making our way up towards High Street under a sky full of promise. By the time I reached Yoke, the pre-sunrise sky was awash with soft pinks—a stunning reward for the early start. After a week of freezing conditions (with temperatures as low as -6°C at night), today felt perfect. The clear skies and frosty ground created a sense of stillness, and we barely saw another soul—a rare thing in this usually busy landscape.

The snow grew deeper as we approached the summit, making the final stretch a bit of a challenge, but it was worth every effort. From the top, the view of the eastern fells was nothing short of magical—a sweeping panorama that felt infinite, untouched, and utterly timeless.

Tomorrow’s forecast looks fair, but rain is expected to return overnight and then it’s back to the wet and windy conditions….
